#DateNight – Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland - View From A Daddy Blog

Alice in Wonderland - View From A Daddy BlogAn opportunity arose this week to spend some one to one time with The Little Lady so we made it date night. It seems an age since it has just been the two of us with Mrs View From a Daddy starting maternity leave and Littlest View From a Daddy arriving so we set a date and made the evening our own. Now, we don’t usually do anything in the evenings because both of the little ones are usually tucked up in bed by 7pm and the I’m either too shattered or busy working so it was with hopes of a big sleep on the journey for the Little Lady that she and I set off for dinner and a night at the theatre. Fortunately, the gentle motion of the car and the static M6 culminated in the perfect conditions for sleep and she was soon into a deep slumber – she would survive the first half at least!

I gave her some choices for what she would like for dinner; she chose pizza – who am I to deny a girl her pizza? She devoured the lot from starter, to main, to dessert and still had room enough to remember there may be ice cream at the interval (that’s my girl). So, with excitement, after we’d dined, we made our way to Derby Theatre for a performance of Alice in Wonderland, which runs until 7th January 2017.

The wonderful family classic has been adapted for stage and brought right up to date with a contemporary slant crafting curious characters and magic which all combine to make the perfect Christmas treat. Hints of the oddities of your favourite characters can be identified while modern themes of childhood are threaded into the tale and brought to the fore. The Little Lady was perhaps one of the youngest in the audience but the allure of the characters, the vivid staging and fantastic dramatisation of the famous tale captured her attention and imagination.

Date night was a hit. We spent time in our own company chatting and giggling and enjoying the magic of the theatre. For me the words ‘I Love you Daddy’ as I tucked her into bed were all I needed to know she had enjoyed our time together.

Tickets are available now via www.derbytheatre.co.uk
