View From a Daddy has just returned from a fantastic four night Woody Wild Break at Bluestone Pembrokeshire – and what a break we had.
Bluestone is set in the UK’s only coastal National Park. If you have never visited Pembrokeshire, it should be a must on your UK holiday location list. With beautiful beaches and picturesque towns, Pembrokeshire is a gem. It’s definitely a firm favourite of ours. You can’t go wrong with a superb family friendly visit to Bluestone where you can relax ’til your heart is content or plan your days filled with a range of activities
At Bluestone there is something for everyone. We were lucky enough to spend four nights in a two bedroom lodge that was fully equipped for the holidaying family – we had a two year old and a three week old. The Caldey Lodge had a twin and double bedroom as well as a wet room making it suitable for all of our needs. A travel cot was provided and you could even request a safety gate and baby bath if required. With a fully fitted kitchen providing all of the utensils and tools you need, you can’t go wrong with this self catering holiday option. Alternatively, if you fancy treating yourselves to dining out, there are a host of restaurants available including a tavern to a more relaxed cafe environment. Camp Smokeys offers you a dining experience where you’ll be thoroughly entertained. The latter is bookable locally.
We enjoyed a free-range toddler break in mid-April when spring had sprung and hints of summer were making an appearance. This meant that we had the pleasure of the sun but even with some spots of rain, we were able to enjoy the many activities that were on offer. Included in the price of your break, is access to the Blue Lagoon which has slides, small and large pools, a pool side cafe and fun filled waves throughout the day. Non-swimmers can also get pool side to enjoy the fun. Bluestone has a fantastic Adventure Centre where your little travellers can enjoy the circus zone, soft play adventure, a lego wall, crazy golf, high rope walking and even a climbing wall (some activities are payable locally). If you fancy getting outside, there is a play zone with slides, swings and climbing frames all located in the beautiful setting of the Bluestone village, which houses a convenience shop, bakery and even a wine store. You might be tempted by the Village Chippy which opens each evening or you can grab a delicious ice cream or hot chocolate from the new coffee shop which is centrally positioned for when you are adventuring or just strolling around.
Bluestone truly is a family friendly location. Cars are not permitted around the village during the day so your modes of transport are by foot, the Bluestone bus which runs frequently around the park or by golf buggy (these can be hired on a daily or weekly basis). Bike hire with buggies for children is also available and allows you to venture around the vast Bluestone park. There are designated walking paths so you don’t have to worry about buggy traffic. But the pace of life at Bluestone is so relaxed that you can be assured of the little one’s safety.
We enjoyed the company of Huwie Hedgehog during a breakfast at the Wildwood cafe. A buffet style breakfast offering both English and continental options were available for adults and children alike, while the super cute Huwie and his pixie friend Leaf entertained the youngsters. The meet and greet really was a personalised event and captured the interest of our little lady who danced and jived along with Huwie and Leaf. The Wildwood cafe offers a magical setting with high and low seating and treetop like dining. It overlooks the Adventure Centre so you can enjoy refreshments while your little ones decide on what activities they are attempting next. Free wifi is available throughout the park so you can keep in touch with the outside world or even post your favourite snaps of the adventures you’re enjoying but with such a range of activities available you might not have time to consider life beyond the beautiful Pembrokeshire and Bluestone.
At a Woody Wild Show you can become a Woody Wilding with the characters that meet your toddlers during your stay. A full hour of fun welcomes the youngest visitors and their parents to get involved in a world of make believe. A full itinerary of activities is provided upon arrival which can be booked via guest services or online. For the littlest of visitors there’s even baby massage to enjoy. Check out the Bluestone website to see the full range of activities. If daddy and mommy fancy a break, Bluestone offers a baby sitting service, but we were so pooped after our days of adventuring that we were soon to bed each evening.
You’re so close to amazing beaches of the Pembrokeshire Coast and other attractions that the area has to offer that you can get out and explore while still having time to enjoy Bluestone. We had a brilliant time at Bluestone where the staff made us fell very welcome throughout our visit. We felt truly relaxed and refreshed even after jam packing our days with fun. We would thoroughly recommend a Woody Wild Toddler Break at Bluestone – make sure you check them out!
