Review: Diono Radian 5 Car Seat

Diono Radian 5 Review - View From A Daddy

Although she wasn’t quite escaping the sides of her previous car seat, I had started to look for something that would fit now and allow her to grow into too. But the challenge really does come when searching through the innumerable car seats that are available on the market today. Most retailers will either offer you the big sell or have someone with hardly any knowledge trying to flog you their stock. If you’re anything like me, you’ll have been surfing websites and weighing up the pros and cons of the numerous reviews. But the littlest lady and I were asked to try out the Diono Radian 5 and knowing this brand for their quality, I was keen to give it a test drive to see what it offered. It hasn’t disappointed.

Diono Radian 5 Plum Review - View From A DaddyWith the hype around changing dates of laws and regulations for car seats, I was keen to get the right seat but, more importantly, I wanted safety for my baby. The Radian 5 offers that. Suitable from birth up to 25kg, this seat is rear facing for the smallest of travellers so you know that you can be assured of their safety in the event of an impact; further assurance is given with the full steel alloy frame and V3 energy reduction system for ultimate protection as well as the SuperGrip energy absorbing harness pads for the all important pressure points. When your not so tiny ones reaches that all important 9kg, the seat can be switched around to a forward facing position.

What I particularly like about the Radian 5 are the deep side walls that provide comfort and containment from head to hip. She’s not tried any escaping yet but I’m sure she’s not far from realising her potential for a Houdini move. The extendable headrest is designed to grow with your little one too so there shouldn’t be too many flopping heads on those sleepy journeys after fun days out. At just under 12 months, she’s still adjusting to where she feels best but the infant support cushion and head rest have proved really useful in helping her settle down. The memory foam padded seat and longer seat cushion offers greater leg support which also works well for the littlest lady too who is long limbed like her sister.

The seat is covered in a super soft fabric that is easy care and like any funky self-respecting car seat it comes with 1 cup holder but has the capacity for 4 – who needs four babycinos at a time? It seems we have a lot to learn.

With its unique space saving design allowing for more room on the car’s back seat, the Radian 5 also has a fold flat mechanism for easy storage and transport. While in situ however, it has a low profile for easy access and boarding and a super safe 5 shoulder harness with 2 crotch strap positions for your growing human.

So far, I’ve been really impressed. Sleep usually ensues quickly when any type of travel is undertaken by the littlest lady and the Radian 5 has not impeded this so it gets the thumbs up from View From a Daddy. I’m off to source more babycinos to really give this seat a ride out!
