Review: THE POLAR EXPRESS™ TRAIN RIDE

Polar Express - View From A Daddy Parenting Blog

Make your way to the platform of Telford Steam Railway; suspend your disbelief and for one afternoon enter into a magical world of fun, excitement and magical Christmas spirit. I did and in turn, the View From a Daddy family had an enchanting experience.

The magnificent steam engine train ride inspired by the Chris Van Allsburg story where a doubting little boy makes a journey to the North Pole is brought to life in the splendid setting of the traditional railway line against a backdrop of steam, lighting and of course the dark skies of December.

Polar Express Telford- View From A Daddy BlogAs you await your designated carriage, anticipation builds for the arrival of the impressive engine to draw you on your route. The sound of its horn and plumes of steam signal the locomotive’s arrival and the experience takes hold of you as the conductor welcomes you aboard and the merriment begins.

Of course there is hot chocolate! Of course there is singing! Of course there is dancing in the aisles and even the opportunity to wear your pyjamas and dressing gowns! What else would you expect aboard the Polar Express? The delight on the faces of everyone is the real testament of the fun to be had and along with all of the fun, the story of The Polar Express is read aloud for you to follow. We took along our own copy of the story but your chef will have a huge copy too and encourage your little ones to turn the page and follow the tale as you journey along the railway. And, as you reach the North Pole, Santa Claus himself can be seen alongside his coursers before he comes aboard to meet and greet you but sadly all too soon you must make your return journey to alight onto platform of reality.

We had a superb afternoon which everyone enjoyed. We each left with commemorative hot chocolate mugs and a gift from Santa Claus that can be cherished forever. After our journey, we were welcomed into a warm tent where the children could check whether they are on the ‘Naughty or Nice List’, write a letter to Santa Claus and colour. There is a shop to grab some little gifts and food is available too within a seated area.

All of the team at Telford Steam Railway were welcoming and friendly. It is clear that they work incredibly hard to make this so special and I would definitely recommend it to everyone. From booking online to receiving our tickets, everything ran smoothly. A complete sell out this year, I know that we need to book well in advance next year so as not to miss out.

Well done everyone involved and thank you. I believe!
