Wow what a day we have had here at View From a Daddy visiting Drayton Manor Theme Park and what made it even more special was that we got to share it with Nanny, Papa and Aunty Kiki too!
Our little train enthusiast jumped on board the super family friendly rides, that allow access to parents as well as little visitors. This is a super feature of the only Thomas Land in Europe; sometimes even the most hardy of youngsters can be wary of the attractions but jumping on board with a partner can make them a little less daunting – especially when you are only two! The little lady tried out everything from the Sodor Classic Cars to flying on board Harold’s Helicopter Tours. She even braved Jeremy’s Flying Tours to capture the views over the park and I’m not afraid to admit, when she made a run for it in the direction of the Rocking Bullstrode (which akin to a pirate ship swings up in the air, then swings out) I did a little and a sharp intake of breath but she took it all in her stride and really did enjoy the fantastic rides in this unique area of the park. Having enjoyed a 2.5 million pound expansion recently, it’s clear to see the benefit its brought to the attraction. We love Drayton Manor not only because it’ so close to our base but because of its draw to families even with the youngest of little people. After enjoying the host of rides in Thomas Land, which are all included in your ticket price, we set off to explore the many other features that are on offer.
It had been a chilly morning so we had a cosy refreshment break in one of the welcoming areas that are located around the park. We chose the Sodor Airport Coffee Lounge in-keeping with our adventures so far and had a pit stop to plan the next stage of our exploration. The facilities are fashionably retro and clean but never mind all that, the coffee was hot and the cakes were delicious! Suitably refreshed we set off to explore the zoo where some of the cheeky animals were out to say hello. We spotted a beautiful owl, a mob of meerkats and even had sight of the stunning Sumatran tigers. This is a great area to explore and take a break from the excitement of the rides. There’s lots to see and even opportunities to get up close to an array of wonderful creatures. Drayton Manor offers a zoo club where budding zoo keepers can have real life experience of learning about how to care for the animals within the park. For more information about this opportunity, check out the Drayton Manor website under ‘rides and attractions’. This will definitely be something to consider for the future for us at View From a Daddy.
After we’d wound our way around and stopped to wave and say hello to nearly all of the beautiful beasties, we caught an Engine Tour back to Knapford Station in Thomas Land. Today, Thomas proudly led us back to our base and the little lady was suitably impressed. The rest of the park opens fully on Saturday 12th March so if you haven’t made plans yet, get your diaries open and make a date with friends and family. You won’t be disappointed.
On today’s visit we took our buggy. Even though parking is really quite near to the entrance, we were sure her little legs wouldn’t last a whole day’s adventuring. But, if you don’t fancy lugging your own kit around, Drayton Manor has a hire facility for buggies and wheelchairs – an ingenious idea if you’re packed to the brim with mini adventurers all their accoutrements and a picnic. There are even storage lockers for you to securely drop your belongings for the duration of the day. Each of these facilities is chargeable locally but can make a real difference to your day meaning there really are no limits to the adventure you can have.
Drayton Manor has something for all of the family. The spring sunshine added that little bit of ‘extra special’ to our visit today and there is no doubt that we’ll be back to Thomas Land and the wider park to enjoy its many superb features. Thank you Drayton Manor for a an excellent day out!
